Strategic Vision for Implementing the “Resources Description and Access (RDA)” Cataloging Rules in the Arab Libraries

This research is concerned with “Resources Description and Access (RDA)” Cataloging Rules that will applied in the biggest international libraries in the near future as a substitute of the “Anglo American” cataloging rules. It also discusses these cataloging rules from the Arabic library perspective, in terms of the intellectual Arabic product and the nature of the Arabic bibliographic resource, it also discusses the readiness of the Arabic cataloger for using those rules, while considering the priorities of the Arabic library, as well as the economic and technical circumstances of the Arabic library and also the educationaland technical circumstances of the Arabic cataloger.

Initially, the rules itself has been studied, along with its strengths and weaknesses; then, the external environment for implementing this rules has been also studied in terms of potential opportunities and threats for using those rules.

Finally, the research presents an overview on the steps and procedures that should be taken into consideration prior to implementing those rules.
